I could boot with a live CD and just do an actual file copy of the user's drive but I prefer taking an image as it's faster. I want to do it in Linux as Linux will wave the permissions for root so that way I can access everything. I have Acronis True Image home which I use to create images of people's computers before I do anything to them, that way I have a roll back plan, and don't have to worry about backing up anything if I format as it's already all backed up.An issue I just ran into is Windows obeys the permissions even if I'm admin, so when I mount the image, I can't access stuff like documents and settings.
